I hope and trust your Christmas Season was beautiful! We spent a day at the snow (unheard of where I reside ;0) the other day breathing in the fresh mountain air!
My family had a wonderful time deviating from the everyday ordinary, however I spotted many people shoveling snow on their driveway and that didn't look too fun!;0) I hope you all enjoyed time spent with loved ones this Holiday season. Here's to a wonderful New Year to you all! God bless you!

Oh My goodness!

Is today really already the 17th?

This week has been such a busy week. This time of the year just proves time and again to be crazy! I hope you are all enjoying the festivities of this beautiful season. In the midst of the "busy-ness" try to enjoy those precious moments with your loved ones. I was just tucking my 16 year old daughter in bed, and as I prayed and hugged her goodnight, I couldn't help but remember her being a tiny little girl... seemed just like yesterday ;0)

Could I be anymore proud?

I am so proud of my Kristina. Only 3 awards given out to individual members on the Field Hockey team and my daughter landed the one that makes my heart sing,
"Most Inspirational".
Her encouragement, love and positive attitude made her the recipient of this award and as you can see, she is quite excited about it too!

Sweet Penguin Lounge Set!

I love the cold wintery months!

Yes, as you can imagine the crafting gene was passed on to all of my children ;0)
Susannah, my youngest daughter came out yesterday after hand sewing this beautiful poinsettia and was very proud of it! I have to say, I was quite impressed and nevertheless had to share it with all of you!
This Poinsettia would make a beautiful package tie on or embellishment to top your bake goods upon presentation. The beautiful poinsettia petals are hand sewn of felt and have button centers. So sweet!!!

What a week!

Well first of all, I hope all of you had a wonderfully blessed Thanksgiving week.
Time is just so precious. During this week we celebrated so much. We celebrated Thanksgiving and my dear husband's birthday... time went too quickly.

Happy Birthday to my little Buddy :0)

My son, Michael is the sweetest most caring little guy:0) When I asked him what sort of party and meal he wanted for his birthday, he simply said " A surfing party with a turkey dinner". Well, days and days of prep went into his meal alone! I was tired, but it was so worth it just to see his face beam with excitement.
His special day was filled with his family, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends. What a special day! What a wonderful son God has blessed me with!

His cake was at his request, a carrot cake from scratch. We made a giant rice crispy treat in the shape of a wave and frosted it on top of his carrot cake with homemade cream cheese frosting (dyed blue of course!) We found little surfboards online and I found a picture of him in his wetsuit, and we printed it out to personalize his cake futher. Gummy fish and sharks swam beneath the ocean's surface. A sandy platform (brown sugar) made a "sweet" ocean floor!

The Children were nestled in their beds fast asleep....

... while mom snuck another scoop of this holiday treat!

I have always been weak for a big scoop of peppermint ice cream and I have to say that Dreyer's (known as Edy's back east) makes TDF Slow Churned Holiday flavors.
One of them just happens to be Peppermint Stick! Mmmmm Mmmm!
I don't know how they pull it off, but their "slow churned" varieties supposedly contain 1/2 the fat of regular ice cream and it's fabulous! So that being said, perhaps I need to go have just one more scoop! ;0)
Oh and by the way, they have an Egg Nog and Pumpkin flavor available that I need to give a try!

One of my faves!

I thought I'd share a recipe as I start to kick off my holiday baking season :0)
This one has got to be one of my favorites!
Think...soft, moist, melt-in-your-mouth gingerbread cookies!
Yum!
My family always enjoys these. My mother passed down this recipe to me and I always remember as a child how much I enjoyed these.
Simply slip on a festive apron, play some Christmas tunes and be prepared to fill you home with the sweet aroma of a "spicy" holiday!

OOPS! The directions say "vanilla" in the first step. Please realize that there is no vanilla in this recipe and was printed by mistake. You may add 1 teaspoon of vanilla to the recipe if you like ;0)

My Home Town

Hello everyone, sorry it's been awhile! I've been busy with orders and getting ready for my sons birthday! He has informed me he wants a turkey dinner for his party! Imagine how busy I'll be! So I've been taking baby steps toward the meal. Today we made our cranberry sauce and jello salad.I will post more this coming week. Until then, I leave you with a view of my hometown from the bleachers at my daughter's field hockey game at Fallbrook High. She had her last game yesterday and won ;)

So, the other day while I was out purchasing yardage for some current projects I happened upon this super adorable flannel Holiday Penguin fabric! These cute whimsical Penguins are rather large in scale, and I couldn't resist some yardage! It brought back the memory of my first born daughter and I making penguins from her thumb and pointer finger with paint on a cermamic planter for a teacher's gift.

You can paint these adorable penguins on anything, and what makes them so unique is that they are made from your own child fingerprints..which any grandparent or loved one adores! :0)

Fingerprint Penguins
You will need:
Some sort of blank for your art work ie. ceramic pot, blank greeting card, wood ornament blank, the options are endless! Use your imagination!
Black acrylic paint
White acrylic paint
Red Acrylic paint
Orange Acrylic paint
Black Sharpie pen.
Squeeze a small amount of black paint onto a paper plate. Press your child's thumb into the paint and firmly place it on the area you would like for your "penguin" to be. Allow black paint to dry. Once the black paint has thoroughly dried, squeeze a small amount of white paint onto a paper plate. Taking the child's pointer finger or pinky, place it in the paint and press child's finger in the center of the black thumbprint creating the "belly and face of the penguin.
If your child is too young to fill in the rest of the details, paint a small red triangle on the head of your penguin and allow to dry, you may paint the white trim once the red has dried. Paint orange feet at the base of the penguin and a beak on it's face. Allow to dry.
Now taking a sharpie pen make two small dots for eyes and a smile if you like off the sides of the beak! Now your child has their own penguin!
If you really want to get creative, you can create a "scene" for your penguin. For example snowy hills, pine trees, igloos... let your child decide for more fun!

Today is my "Un-Birthday"... is it yours too???

I celebrated entering into my mid 30's this past Sunday. My daughter celebrated her sweet 16 only 13 days prior. She had an Alice in Wonderland party and it was a riot! All of her friends were assigned a character from the story in their own interpretaion, and I had no idea that they would participate so nicely! Anyhow, my fabulous Sister in Law, Michelle and my brother threw her the party and made this fabulous cake! Michelle has already been enlisted for weddings, baby showers and other parties. I am in awe of her creativity.

It's Pixie Dust Fairy, Tink!!!


I had fun with little Ely capturing her as Tinkerbell, her "favoritist" fairy!
This sweet rendition of Tinkerbell is not a new design of mine, however I have incorporated a fabulous 100% Cotton pixie dust marble lime fabric featuring "pixie dust" glitter:0)
The bodice and straps are completely lined.
Unfortunately, I could not capture the glitzy bling of the fabric, in this photo however it is undoubtedly sparkly!!

A "Spook-tacular" sight!

I just came in from a very busy fun filled weekend! I plan on posting much more in the coming week, but thought I'd share a fun image I captured while in line for "Nightmare Before Christmas" ride at Disneyland. I have to say it was quite fun!
They ended up closing the park early for a Sweet 16 Celebration event for Miley Cyrus. I couldn't believe how much they whooped it up for her. I was told that for 2009, Disney's whole theme is going to be "What will you celebrate?" and guests will be admitted in free on their birthday! I believe the event was sort of a kick off for that promotion. Anyhow, tons of little girls frolicked around the park in their Hannah Montana get ups! It was a fun sight to see all the excitement.

My Sweet 16

Happy Birthday to my dear firstborn, Kristina!
I am more than blessed to have a daughter as sweet as her. She truly has a heart for others all brought about by her relationship with the Lord.

Kristina has always been a very adventurous funny girl... not afraid to be herself and has a love for Tiki men!

Where did time go?
I remember lying on my back tossing her about on my feet up in the air while we laughed and watched Sesame Street...
Where did time go???
She always had her hand in mine and reminded me to pray for others.
I would think... "how wonderful to have this child by my side...
it will be years before she's even in school...
we have all the time in the world together."

Many of you may have children my daughter's age, perhaps older, and very likely.... younger. I want to encourage you to enjoy your time with your little ones. Life can get so busy, and before you know it, years have gone by.
Take time to be silly with them. Get on the floor with them and view things from their perspective, because all too soon they are looking at you eye to eye, or perhaps they may even pass you up! Seize the moments you have and enjoy those blessings in your life.
