Tropical Birthday Fun

Yes, I realize that we are in the midst of winter, but my youngest daughter insisted on having a Hawaiian Luau for her Birthday Party this year. I suppose she is tired of the cold weather and looks forward to the warmer days of spring (which will be here before you know it since we live in Southern California ;0)
So in addition to surfboards and leis strewn throughout our home as decorations we decided to make some fun themed cupcakes to go along with a suprise cake that my Sister in law is making for her.
We call our creation "Tye Dyed Tropical Treats". They were very easy to make.
We swirled blue and yellow frosting for a "tye dyed effect".
Our palm tree's leaves are simply spearmint leaf gumdrops halved and then quartered lengthwise.
The fabulous palm tree trunk is fashioned of tootsie roll midgees. We microwaved them for a few seconds to make them more pliable and shaped them into trunks.
We can't wait to share our creation tomorrow at her party!
